‘Wakid wins nail biting 2010 Katameya Junior Open’
With the perfect playing conditions over the two days there were no excuses for any of the competitors in the 2010 Katameya Junior Open. As always there were several categories for all levels of juniors to compete and a nail biting climax to the event.
Day 1 over the Championship Course saw Ibrahim Wakid (Kat) take a commanding lead over his rivals. His closest challenger was Issa Abou El Ela (Alex) who was 6 shots behind but he knew that he had to give everything he had to fight for the title. Day 2 started not too good for Wakid and with Abou El Ela applying the pressure for the start it was a battle right until the end with both players finishing on +15 for the two days and a play off required to determine the overall 2010 Katameya Champion. After checking, signing and posting their scorecards Wakid and Abou El Ela went back down the 18th hole for the play off.
Wakid launched his drive down the fairway and knocked his second shot on the green. Abou El Ela could only make the green in 3 shots. Wakid putted first and ran it past some 6 ft; Abou El Ela narrowly missed his par and had to accept a bogey 5. It was all down to the 6 ft putt that Wakid had now. He stood over the putt and confidently stroked it in the hole and claimed the 2010 Katameya Junior Open title.
Wakid was thankful of Katameya Heights, his fellow players, his family and looks forward to retaining the title he has just won next year.
The overall net division champion was Timi Obatoyinbo (Kat) who played extremely well returning net rounds of 68-63 = 131 playing from his 24 handicap.
Hassan Said (Kat) took the runner up spot with net rounds of 71-70 = 141 playing from his 12 handicap.
