“Three in a row for Scarello”
Having won the 2007 and the 2008 Katameya Men’s Amateur Open’s, Taymour Scarello (KH) made it three in a row by winning the 2009 event. Scarello was lying third, +5 after the first round and 4 shots behind the joint leaders Mike Adly (KH) and Issa Abou El Ela (ALEX). The second round saw Issa and Mike control the front 9 holes but Scarello was still right there on +7. After changes in the lead, hole by hole between Issa, Mike and Taymour, it was Scarello that took control with a magnificent eagle on the par five 15th which put him in the lead at +5 but he was fully aware he could not make a mistake in the final 3 holes. Par on 16 and 17 and a bogey on 18 was good enough for Taymour Scarello to win and become The 2009 Katameya Men’s Amateur Open Champion. Taymour recorded gross rounds of 77 – 73 = 150 total +6.
Issa Abou El Ela (ALEX) who unfortunately lost out in the battle to win the gross division was the 2009 Net Champion with net rounds of 65 – 74 = 139 total. Issa’s closest rival and runner up was Ghassan Kabbani (KH) returning net rounds of 73 = 75 = 148 total.
Both respective champions made brief speeches thanking Katameya Heights Golf Department, fellow competitors and the Head Golf Professional and they are already looking forward to defending their titles next year.
